AND so we come to the last Chapter of the book. We’ve seen how God has led His people from being slaves in
Today we read about the final setting up of the Tabernacle. As usual the Lord has given Moses detailed instructions how to go about it. The Tabernacle was the place where they could meet with God and, as such, it was a holy place. What made it holy was not the materials it was made from but the purpose for which it was made. By the same token we can say that what makes our church buildings today special is the fact that they are dedicated to the service of God.
Moses did everything as he was told. I don’t for a minute imagine that he was the only one working, for no one man could do all that by himself. Are we ready to take our share in the work of our congregations? Sometimes it means being willing to do hard physical work as well as the seemingly more spiritual visiting and preaching. All along we see once more that Moses did it in obedience to the commands of God. Everything was done very methodically. Occasionally we tend to rush headlong into things without too much forethought. Let’s learn not to be quite so hasty.
Once the Tabernacle was finished, God set His seal on it by the reality of His presence. Not even Moses could go into the holy of holies then. Is God present with us today? Are we welcoming Him or ignoring Him? The people didn’t move on until the Lord gave them His word to do so. What a difference it would make to our lives today, both as fellowships and as individuals, if we were just as obedient.
